Some exciting news for you all: here’s presenting Mind Full of Everything’s new podcast cover!! Which means…..Season 3 is here 💚 Our dominant culture has for too long emphasised on distinction, separatism and defined boundaries in societies that should be collaborative and harmonious in nature. Dichotomies such as individualism-collectivism have been critiqued as causing a further cultural divide between Western and non-Western regions, by reinforcing cultural stereotypes and creating good-bad comparisons. It’s #indigenouspeoplesday today so to celebrate our fellow Indigenous communities, and our pre-colonial roots, I created this thread of some of the Indigenous teachings/wisdom I have gotten to explore throughout this podcast, particularly in the recent episode. Swipe for some insight on why neoindividualism needs to be pathologised, as discussed in the recent episode. Self, as defined by Harry Triandis, is an active agent which promotes differential sampling, processing and evaluation of information from the environment and leads to behavioural differences in society. Immigration may well have held many challenges, but one of the things I am most grateful about having an immigrant standpoint is realising how broken Western communities are. Our self-centred systems have taught us to prioritise yourself and your in-group before others, but once we individually, and collectively, come to realise that this a toxic way of life, it’s as if many of us don’t know how to make deep and meaningful connections anymore. Very excited to be releasing a #reflection episode tomorrow about how I came to terms with myself whilst remaining connected to the Indian culture of community, and how we can all repair our damaged sense of relatedness & unity in our fragmented world. Stay tuned! Birth mums, adoptive mums, transgender mums, lesbian mums, non-binary mums, single mums and all mother figures deserve respect, care and support by society and bodies of power. Yet our dominant cultures, strengthened by patriarchal norms, have trivialised motherhood and all the experiences a mother undergoes as they transition into motherhood. Whilst research into how a fast-changing world can impact the mental and physical wellbeing of mothers is predominantly for birth mums, again due to the flawed general notion that motherhood can only be experienced through physical birth, birth mums also experience various traumas such as objectification and inadequate prenatal and postpartum wellbeing support.
